Martha Josephine Goodnight

Mrs. Martha Deal Goodnight, age 96 of China Grove, peacefully passed away on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at Caremoor Assisted Living Center in Kannapolis after a brief illness. Born September 24, 1925 in Rowan County, Martha was the daughter of the late Joe B. Deal and Oma Sechler Deal. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Goodnight, her sister, Rachel Deal Linker and her son in-law, Steve Dabbs. Martha graduated from Landis High School and then spent her career working for China Grove Cotton Mill and later for Terry Products.

Martha was a longtime member of Mt. Moriah Lutheran Church where she was active with the Altar Guild and a member of WELCA. She served in many other capacities over the years. Martha was an excellent cook and loved preparing wonderful meals for Sunday gatherings with her family. In her spare time, she loved gardening and being outdoors. She loved word search puzzles and always had a book of them close by. Martha adored her family and her great-grandson, Kendall was her pride and joy.

Those left to cherish her loving memory are her daughter, Carolyn Goodnight Dabbs, her grandson, Gray Dabbs (Traci) and her great-grandson, Kendall Dabbs. She also leaves behind her sisters, Evelyn Deal Laidlaw, Coleen Deal Kerr and Judy Deal Gibson.

Funeral Service for Martha will be on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at 2:00pm at Mt. Moriah Lutheran Church officiated by Pastor Tim Kneuss. Committal Service will immediately follow in the Church Cemetery. The family has requested that you kindly remember Martha with memorials in her honor to Mt. Moriah Lutheran Church, 750 Mt.
