Guy Camomilli

Guy Camomilli, age 72, passed away on Sunday, April 18, 2021 after a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis. He is survived by many friends and family who loved him. He and his wife, Lynda, celebrated 50 years together just before his passing. Guy had a quiet strength within him and fought to stay with us beyond expectation.

Guy was the second of 5 children and was born September 17, 1948 in Detroit, Michigan. At age15, he moved to Florida, and lived the rest of his life there. Guy was a very perseverant (and some would say stubborn) man. He worked himself through three degrees, culminating in a Masters of Public Health. With this, he became a very important leader in the NASA occupational health and safety program. His ideas and contributions are still in place at NASA today. He never stopped working to improve his knowledge and also had many certifications to go along with his degree.

Guy was an avid fish tank enthusiast, and kept many different kinds of fish over the years. He drew respite and relaxation watching his fish in the evening.

Perhaps the most prolific of Guy’s hobbies was woodworking. Guy was nothing short of an artist. He built large furniture, and was very handy at improvising and creating useful storage around the house. When the pulmonary fibrosis became too taxing, Guy became an expert wood carver. His many spoons, canes, and miniature furniture are a testament to his talent.

Intellectual discussions were another of his favorite pastimes. He made many friends with his ability to listen as well as thoughtfully speak. Science and God were some of his favorite subjects.

Guy’s sense of humor was unrivaled. To this day, his many sayings are fondly repeated amongst those who knew him best. His favorite movie was Christmas Vacation, and he quoted most of the movie (to his daughters’ chagrin in their teenage years) during the holiday season.

It is difficult to articulate how well-rounded, intelligent, talented, funny, and loving Guy was. To quote his favorite book, Mere Christianity by C. S. Lewis, ”Humility is not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less."

Go rest and be with God and your family who has gone before you. You are free now, we will love you forever.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at noon with a gathering beginning at 10:00 am at Brevard Memorial Funeral Home, 5475 North US Highway 1, Cocoa FL.

Guy indicated as one of his last wishes that donations be made in lieu of flowers to either the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America or the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
