We  were  friends  of  Bill  &  Evelyn;  close  friends;        they  were  both   very  special  people  in  our  lives.

Bill was our next door neighbor for several years.  We shall miss him so very much.  Bill taught us what it is to be a neighbor and how to be a good neighbor.  He wanted to know if we were going to be away so he could keep a close eye on our home.  And likewise he let us know if he would be away.  And we would keep an eye on his home.  We had great chats, long discussions about politics, what was going on in town and, as Commissioner Toumpas wrote in his memory, he freely shared his strong opinions.  He always wanted to know how my 91 year old father-in-law, who lives with us, was doing.  He seemed far more concerned about others than himself.  
Bill would call me on the phone.  “Chris, this is your neighbor Bill.”  (He always said that even though I always happily knew it was Bill)  “You must come over.  I have prepared dinner for your father-in-law George”, he would say.  I would say, “Bill, you didn’t need to do that.”  He would respond, “It is hot so come over now before it gets cold!”  And I would come over and get George’s dinner.  We would catch up on family news.  He loved to brag about Genie and his granddaughters.  And let me just say it was never Sheppard’s Pie or a hamburger.  It was always an incredible meal with plenty of veggies…and desert.  Frequently, it was a Greek dish and he would tell me the name but I could not pronounce it.  Occasionally, some of George’s meal would be missing before George got it.  Sometimes George suspected that I had sampled his meal. Usually it was the desert that he thought was missing. This was not a once in a while occasion.  He cooked dinner for George at least a hundred times.  And I never felt we could pay him back as much as we tried.  This is what it is to be a good neighbor.  Thank you Bill.
We will keep an eye on your family.  George, Kristine and I shall miss you friend. You are the best neighbor we ever had…

It was with great sadness that I learned of the passing of Bill Hadges.  Bill was my father’s business partner in two of Concord’s memorable restaurants: Stephen’s Diner and The Fife and Drum.  
I got to know Bill very early when I worked alongside of my parents and Bill in the diner.  In time, I got to know his beloved wife, Evanthia, and they along with their two children Genie and Nick, became part of our extended family. 
Over the years, Bill became more than just a business partner with my dad, where we both served on the church council and in the Order of AHEPA.  One learned early that Bill was a quick study and always had an opinion, often a strong opinion, whether on the business, politics or life.  And he was passionate in his feelings, but also a great sense of humor.  He is someone, I will never forget.
My family extends our deepest condolences to Bill’s family, especially Genie, Nick and their children.

I was sad to hear that Bill passed away. I have known him for many years and enjoyed my conversations with him. He was a close friend to my husband Michael and sometimes played cards together. Michael chose Bill to be my daughter's Godfather.  My sympathy to the Hadges family members.  With Love and prayers, Phyllis
