Elizabeth “Betsy” Hayden Hodum, age 67, passed away from breast cancer peacefully in her home on March 30, 2020. Betsy was born in Mobile, Alabama, in 1952, the second youngest of seven children to Irene and Ivan Hayden. Shortly after marrying Gene Hodum in 1974, they moved to his hometown of Willis, Texas.
Betsy spent her adult life serving her local community, first as a radiologist at the old Conroe Hospital, and then for over 30 years in the human resources office for the Willis Independent School District. Blessed with deep faith, she was also active in her parish community and religious education at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Conroe. An avid reader, she never turned down a good murder mystery or romance novel – her kindle remained as full as her bookshelves. Betsy loved to grab brunch with her ladies group from church, travel with her sisters, and, most of all, spend time with her loved ones. As she often said, she liked to have ‘all her little ducks in a row’ with her children and grandchildren nearby.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years Gene, her children De Anne and David, her grandchildren William and Eleanor, several siblings (Kathy, Angie, Chris, and John), and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Funeral mass is scheduled for Friday, April 23rd at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with a reception to follow. Please consider donating to cancer research or a local hospice care center in lieu of flowers.
