Harlan graduated from Alma High School in 1951, then served in the United States Navy. Following his service in the military, he became a carrier for the United States Postal Service. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 29 years. He is a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers.
Harlan was a loving husband and always provided for his family. He was proud of all the achievements of his children, especially when they both graduated from college. He believed in the importance of an education. Harlan always looked forward to spending time with his children. He loved to listen to the music of his son and talk tennis with his daughter. He served as the President of the Mary Carroll High School Tennis Booster Club. Harlan was an athlete, referee, umpire and constant fan of sports. A big triumph for him, was being able to see the Astros win the World Series. He loved the outdoors, gardening and camping. Harlan also had a fondness of classic movies and the musical oldies. He had such a strong, wonderful voice like Sinatra and Crosby and his singing would bring much joy. Harlan also had a soft heart for all kinds of animals from his pet goat and rat as a kid to his cat Mr. Salem.
Harlan was preceded in death by his parents, step-father George Eihusen, step-brother Virgil Eihusen, and step-sister Rose Thurber. He is survived by his wife of 59 years of marriage, Adela Coursey, son Harlan Christian Coursey and wife Karen, and daughter Carrie Catherine Coursey-Bryson and husband Steven, as well as a wealth of relatives and friends that he treasured. Harlan will always be remembered for his devotion and love to family, his generosity and kind heart, and his willingness to help. Harlan will live forever in our hearts. "We love you!"

Visitation is scheduled on Thursday, October 25, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Funeraria Del Angel - Memorial Holly with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. that same evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, October 26, 2018 at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.
