Therese Marie Kalbacher

Therese (Terri) Marie Kalbacher, formerly of Woodbridge and Lake of the Woods, Virginia, passed away peacefully at Bethany Village Senior Living Center, Centerville, Ohio, on May 24, 2026, at the age of 95.

Terri was the born the beloved daughter of Katherine (Kay) and William (Bill) Finley, on April 8, 1931, in Bronx, NY. While an only child, Terri had wonderful memories of growing up with large group gatherings including many cousins and all of their silly antics!

Terri also fondly remembered her adventures growing up in New York City, and as a teenager often rode the subway into the City to have dinner with her father. She attended an all-girls Catholic high school, and, as many young ladies of that era, took dance lessons with dreams of becoming a Radio City Rockette.

As a young woman, Terri worked as a map girl for North British Insurance Agency in downtown Manhattan.Terri and her future husband, Raymond (Ray) Kalbacher, met at work. Their romance began when they were out with a group of friends one evening and Ray insisted on escorting her home so that she would not ride the subway alone.

Terri and Ray were wed in Whitestone, NY, on October 16, 1954. After marriage,Terri and Ray moved to Arlington, Virginia, as Ray’s work was located in Washington, DC. They would later move to Woodbridge, Virginia, and, after retiring, Lake of the Woods, Virginia.

Their daughter, Therese (Trezy,) was born in August of 1955. Trezy became an elementary school teacher and married her husband, John Barb. Together they have three children: Patrick, father of two sons: Grant and Avery, son Scott, married to wife, Brittney, and father of two daughters: Isla and Astrid, and daughter, Kerry McNab, married to husband Wes, and mother of three sons: Brady, Brooks, and Bode.

Terri and Ray’s son, Thomas (Tom,) was born in June of 1961. Tom established his career as a business manager with Land O’Lakes Inc., and married wife, Stephanie (Stefi.) Together they have three children: Katie Irwin, married to husband, Tom, and mother of three sons: Richard, Henry, and William, daughter, Elizabeth Brumbacher, married to wife Amanda, and son, Matthew, married to wife, Savannah Sellers.

Over the years, Terri worked as a secretary, preschool assistant teacher, and insurance agent. It was Terri and Ray’s great joy to see their children and grandchildren grow! Summer vacations together at Corolla Beach, NC—along with a must-do trip to the fudge shop—held many special memories. Then, in later years, Terri witnessed and celebrated as all of her grandchildren graduated, established careers, and found their life partners.

Terri will long be known for her love of fashion and feisty New York attitude!

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that any donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
