Lola

To everyone, she was Patricia Paholio, mother of William, Napoleon, Elizabeth, teresita, Jesus Jr., Rudy and JERIC Paholio; Grandmother to Jesus III, Robert, Bryant, Rhea, Ruby, Rodjard, Julie, Elizabeth, Lonnie, Brandon, Nap, Kimberley, Anna kin, Mary Ann, Cloydgene, Shawn, Matthew, Marc Aaron, and Paul John; Great grandmother to Athena, Cameron, Robert, James, Isabella, Aristotle Jr, Aisis, Landon, Adrian, Sophia, Ziva, Jack, Miles, Lincoln, Devlyn, Madeline, Harper, William Jr, Jacob, Anaya, Alyna...

To me, she was just Lola. Lola was the heart of the family. She was the matriarch and foundation of the family.

Growing up, the place to be was 2111 Kalibo st. Most of My best childhood memories were in that house. While the grownups were busy talking and chitchatting, the kids were busy playing tag and hide in seek outside; or we were in the room, playing catch the monster. This was a game in which all the grandkids were on top of the bed, while one person was “it” trying to catch someone. It was loud and messy but fun. Just imagine more than 10 kids on top of the bed running and jumping on top of the mattress. I remember getting yelled at because we were too loud, but it didn’t matter, we were kids having fun and making memories at our lola’s house. 

Another memory comes to mind was when I was in high school. It was Christmas time and every year, we went to Lola’s house to celebrate. Every year during Christmas, we would open our presents at 12:00 am. Thinking I was all that as a teenager, I skipped the family tradition and went to a party at a friend’s house. With no cellphone, no one knew where I was. But Lola said, no one was allowed to open the present until Bing Bing came home. All my family waited to me to open the presents that year all because Lola said to wait for bing bing. When I got home, I was in trouble. I felt really bad that year, however, I realized that family was everything. OHANA...No one gets left behind or forgotten.
