He requested there be no funeral services. The family plans to have a private celebration of his life, honoring his wishes, at a later date.
Robert was born August 12, 1929 in Spokane, WA to Earl Bucknell and Wave (DeBolt) Bucknell. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1947, Colorado School of Mines as a Geophysical Engineer in 1957, and The University of Michigan with a Master’s in Arts (Math) in 1963. He became a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries in 1971. On September 2, 1961 he married the former Dixie R. Foster in Clinton, OK. Bob was employed as a Geophysicist at the time but spent most of his working career as an Actuary; eventually starting his own business in the 1980’s from which he retired in 1990. He enjoyed admiring the wildlife in the area, planting trees in and working in his yard. His favorite hobbies included spelunking, backpacking, and hiking with his children, nephews and friends; he tackled many of Colorado’s fourteeners as well as the mountains of Hawaii and New Zealand before suffering a stroke in 2000. However, following his stroke, he still enjoyed many road trips around the country with his wife Dixie and her sisters and brother-in laws, visiting with his sister and his nephews, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Robert is survived by his son, Craig Bucknell and his wife Kimberly Ables-Bucknell, his daughter Alanna Baker (Bucknell) and her husband Kenneth Baker; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Parsons (Bucknell), Shay McCaffrey, Garrett Bucknell, and one great granddaughter Kalei Parsons, his sister Pauline B. Wood, and five nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Wave, and his wife Dixie R. Bucknell (Foster) in 2016.
