Thresia Johanna Sophia was born in Warnsveld Netherlands. In a double ceremony on January 17, 1951 she and her twin sister, Johanna married best friends and business partners Johannes Teunissen and Gerard Moerman. Due to the postwar housing shortage, they emigrated from Holland to Canada and settled in Aylmer, Quebec. Setting up a small lumber yard business they raised their families providing a better life. After 6 years of marriage and 4 children, Thresia was tragically widowed losing her husband, the love of her life.
With her deep abiding Catholic faith and the loving support of family members, Thresia courageously built a good life for her children. She started evening classes in English and Business, eventually securing a fulfilling 30 year career with the Federal Government. Upon retirement she moved to Mill Bay, Vancouver Island to be close to her children and family. Making the most of enjoying her life, she spent many years exploring the island with her walking group and line danced into her 80's. She had a passion and talent for gardening and flower arranging. Attending St. Francis Xavier Church for the past 24 years gave Thresia strength and joy. Thresia was very generous and always the optimist. She loved participating in and hosting family dinners in the "Dutch Tradition", and you could always count on her homemade Dutch Apple Cake to grace an event.
Thresia passed away peacefully in hospital after a brief illness. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the Cowichan District Hospital Staff. Also a special thanks to family Moerman-Carter for support above and beyond during this time.
Survived by her children Maion (Bill Davidson), Helmut (Vickie), Lucien and Hans predeceased (Kim), grandchildren Leah, Jessica, Aaron, Chelsey, Samuel, Tedra and Mahaila and great grandchildren, Maggie, Tayah and Ellis, her sister Willie Van Ginkel, and extended relatives in Ontario and Holland.
Thanks for being a great mom! We will love you and miss you forever.
