Gene vann was and is an inspiration and father figure to many. His kind heart and refusal to pass judgement served as a moral compass that led people to forgive. I will always remember the man that expressed himself through kind gestures and a willingness to listen to anyone. There are few people left with such a compassion as he possessed. "Big Gene" would favor those in need and help in any way he could. Many times I have sat with Big Gene and spoke about what's right and wrong, his way of teaching was to live upright and to do the best he could to help others as to be the example, not just speak the example. He believed in family and community. Big Gene would frequently give to anyone in need, not just money, but his home, his friendship, or anything he possessed to make another's day brighter. This world has most definitely lost one of the greats! You will be missed Big Gene! I know there is a place in heaven where you and your wife are celebrating love. Thank you for being in my life, I can't wait to see you again.
