

John J. DeRosa, 91, of East Hartford, peacefully passed away on Saturday, July 2, 2016 with his loving family by his side at the Riverside Health Care & Rehabilitation Center in East Hartford. Born in Hartford on October 30, 1924, a son of the late Anthony and Emanuella (Carillo) DeRosa, he had been a resident of East Hartford for over 35 years. John was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II and was a long-time communicant of St. Rose Church, East Hartford. Prior to his retirement he was employed for many years as a Machinist by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, East Hartford and later at Hartford Steel Ball formerly in Hartford. John was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was a talented artist who liked to paint nature scenes.
John is survived by two brothers, Frank DeRosa of Glastonbury, and Anthony “Tony” DeRosa of East Hartford with whom he made his home; two sisters, Edwina “Dolly” Straceski of East Hartford, and Jacqueline “Jackie” Chicoine and her husband, Wilfred of East Hartford; a brother-in-law, Tom Reddy of East Hartford; several nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Donald DeRosa of Glastonbury, and a sister, Geraldine Reddy of East Hartford.
Funeral service will be Friday (July 8, 2016) at 10 am from the D’Esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:30 am at St. Rose Church, 33 Church Street, East Hartford. Burial with military honors will follow at Mount Saint Benedict Cemetery, (Section Y), Bloomfield. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home chapel on Friday morning (July 8th) from 9 – 10 am. Memorial contributions in John’s name may be made to a favorite charity of the donor’s choice.
