Hortencia (Tencha) F Porter, wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend was called to our Lord on Thursday, September 30, 2021. She was born to Flavio Nieto and Blanca Baumann on October 10, 1930, in El Paso, Texas. Tencha met her husband Frank at the Fort Bliss NCO Club and they decided to marry after she completed her nursing education. Tencha was a graduate of El Paso High, Hotel Dieu School of Nursing, and attended Western New Mexico University. She was an ardent Catholic with a special devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. A self-professed introvert she never met a stranger and leaves a legacy of love, warmth, hope, and zest for life. She delighted in gardening and enjoyed sewing for her family, needle point, crochet, puzzles, playing card and board games. Tencha retired as a school nurse from the El Paso School District in 1985.
Survivors include her sister Dolores Machicado, children, Vicky Allison (Michael), Frank, Rosanna Porter-Stevers (Steve), Patrick (Darla), Donald (Jill), Robert (Renee), 13 grandchildren: Tish, Sarah, Dillon, Hunter, Jacob, Skyler, Miller, Deandra, Madison, Donovan, Ty, Karlyn, and Mitchell; 5 great-grandchildren: Savannah, Emily, Paris, Leo, and Evalyn. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank, brother Gilbert Baumann, and grandson Brady John Stevers. We would like to thank all our family and friends who supported her with love and prayers.
Visitation will be Thursday, October 28, 2021 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Hillcrest Funeral Home with vigil service at 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, October 29, 2021, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at St. Raphael Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Vincent De Paul Society or your favorite charity.
