Wesley Chester Knecht

Wesley C. Knecht, 65 of Elk Rapids passed away Monday, June 18, 2018 at his home. Wesley was born on March 1, 1953 to Albert and Amanda (Stuckle) Knecht in Gackle, ND. He graduated with a Pharmacy degree from the North Dakota State University in 1976. Wesley married Theresa Thybault on July 28, 1979 in Midland, MI.

Wes was very instrumental in helping other pharmacists to establish their own operations, and eventually fulfilled his own dream when he was finally able to open his own pharmacy in sunny Elk Rapids where he became the Corner Druggist. He loved the community in which he served, and cared deeply for the people. His customers were his friends.

He was very active in his community where he strongly believed it was his “mission” to serve others. He was a longtime member of the Michigan Pharmacy Association, was a Rotarian with the Elk Rapids Chapter, a member of the DDA and Housing Commission, member of the Elk Rapids Chamber of Commerce, and attended Kewadin Methodist Church.

Wes also enjoyed reading, gardening and cooking. Most importantly, his greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Theresa, children; Kristen (Andrew), Rachel (Jason), David (Ambica) and five grandchildren, Lili, Richard, Margot, Raahm, and Sophie. He is also survived by several brothers and sisters. He was preceded in death by one grandchild, his parents, father-in-law and sister-in-law.

A Memorial Services will be held in September. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Wes’s memory may be made to the American Diabetes Assoc., the Elk Rapids Rotary, American Cancer Society, or Hospice of Michigan, or do an act of kindness in your community.
