He was graduated from St. Paul’s Lutheran Grade School, Central High School and Indiana University. Paul was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Darmstadt, where he had served as Treasurer. He was a retired field agent for the Internal Revenue Service, and was awarded the Albert Gallatin award for his 30 years of service to the United States Treasury. Paul was a World War II veteran and a life member of DAV Chapter 7. He participated in the Battle of Normandy and was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Eloise (Schlensker) Schnute; brothers, Kenneth Schnute and Rev. William Schnute; sisters, Mildred Leinenbach, Hazel Russell, Violet Craig, Valada Kissel, and Eileen Wachob.
He is survived by his son, Dr. Mark E. Schnute of Acton, MA; nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held 1:00 p.m., Monday, August 17, 2020 at Alexander North Chapel, 4200 Stringtown Road, with Pastor Stan Temme officiating. Burial will follow in Lutheran Cemetery with military rites by Retired Veterans Memorial Club. Friends may visit Monday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
