Arnold Hoskin Sr. was born on June 6, 1936 in Chicago, Illinois. He was the last of eleven children born to the late Eddie and Rachel Hoskin.

Confessing to Christ at an early age and his knowledge of Christ was demonstrated through the kindness, devotion and love he had for his family and friends.

Arnold was educated in Chicago and graduated from Tilden High School. Prior to his military career, Arnold married Katie in 1954; two sons were born to this union, Arnold Jr., aka “Dunie” and Reginald Hoskin. On August 21, 1959 he joined the United States Army where he entered the Army Medical Training Center at Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam in Houston Texas. He completed his training and worked as a medic until he was honorably discharged in August of 1961. During this time, he received a medal for “good conduct.”

In 1966, Arnold met Bernice; this friendship resulted in the birth of his daughter Shirl Taylor. Arnold had a passion for education. He used his GI Bill to obtain his Bachelor’s degree from Chicago State University. Upon completion he worked as a substitute teacher for the Chicago Board of Education. He maintained his employment at the Post Office throughout his tenure as a teacher. In 1970, while working as a sorter at the Post Office, he met the love of his life, Doris. Arnold and Doris “courted” for two years and married April 28, 1972. Arnold added three sons to his life when they married, Charles, Morris, and Darren Euman. Daughter Casandra Hoskin was born soon after to complete this blended family.

Arnold worked at United States Post Office for 30 years. His love and passion for education lead Arnold pursue and obtain his Master's in Education from Northeastern Illinois University-College of Inner-City Studies once he retired. He shared his affinity for history and education with all that cared to listen. He was an avid reader and was quite vocal about social justice issues and politics.

Arnold was also known as the “Bar-B-Que King”. He could grill, smoke ribs and chickens with the best rib shacks in the Midwest. He had a fondness of good food, cars, and Western themed films and television shows. Arnold was also an enthusiastic shopper. His affinity for clothes, shoes, and hats left Doris with little to no closet space for her clothes.

Arnold departed this life in the early hours of September 23, 2020. He now joins his son, parents and siblings in glory.

Arnold was a loving husband, exceptional father, nurturing grandfather, and all-around distinguished gentleman that will truly be missed by all the had the pleasure of knowing him.

His memory will be cherished by his loving wife Doris, sons Arnold “aka Dunie” (Aasiya) Hoskin Jr., Reginald (Susan) Hoskin, Charles Euman, Morris Euman, the late Darren (Barbara) Euman; daughters Shirl Taylor, and Casandra Hoskin-Townsel (Robert); a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

In consideration of the safety of our guests and associates, Kenny Bros. Funeral Directors will adhere to the current gathering restrictions in the state of Illinois, which allow 50 or fewer guests at services.
