

Dave is survived by his children, Timothy MacMurdo of Brooklyn Park, MN, Christopher MacMurdo, of Logan, UT, and Kimberly McDowell of Fairfield, CA, and 7 grandchildren and one great-grandson. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Sandra Wright; his siblings Doug MacMurdo and Deanne Henry.
Dave was born September 27, 1944 in Chicago, IL. to David MacMurdo, Sr., and Dorothy MacMurdo (nee Beach). Dave grew up in the Sacramento area, and graduated from El Camino High School in 1962. He graduated with a Bachelor in Arts in Liberal Studies from Raymond College (University of the Pacific) in 1965.
He married Sandra Wright in 1966 and they joined the Peace Corps together and served in Chile before traveling around South America, returning to the United States with little more than a guitar, photos, and amazing stories.
After Peace Corps, Dave completed his teaching certificate from UC Berkeley and made a home in Suisun City, CA. He began working as a teacher for the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District In 1972. At first as an elementary school teacher at Crescent, Crystal, and David Weir Elementary Schools eventually making his transition to Sullivan Middle School where he taught computers and mathematics until his retirement in 2002. Dave was a devoted teacher who received several “Teacher of the Year” awards and enjoyed mentoring new teachers.
Dave was active with the Suisun City Volunteer Firefighters for ten years in the 1970’s and 1980’s, achieving rank of Lieutenant. His family has many fond memories of participating in fire department activities in the community. He also took pride in restoring and maintaining his Victorian home in Old Town Suisun.
Dave enjoyed spending time outdoors engaging in activities such as backpacking, hiking, and car camping. He fostered his love and appreciation of the natural world in his children and grandchildren, and was also a supporter of numerous organizations whose mission is the preservation of nature for all to enjoy.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2020 from 1pm - 4pm at his home in Suisun City.
