Dillard H. Wied passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2019 at a nursing home in Hebbronville, Texas at the age of 92. He was born on December 24, 1926 to Arthur Leo Wied and Annie Schuh Wied in Crestonio, Texas. He was a Director for the First National Bank for 38 years, a Texas Veteran's of Foreign Wars Member and a Jim Wells County Farm Bureau Member.
As a young man, he grew up on the family homestead where he milked cows, farmed, and took care of livestock. After graduating from school, he continued to farm and ranch until he entered the United States Army where he proudly and honorably served.
After coming home from the service, he partnered with his brother, Perry and they continued to work in the farm and ranch industry. He also had a welding shop that he was very proud of. He later decided to quit farming and ranching as his full time career and began to work for Schlumberger on a logging truck. After some years, Dillard resigned from Schlumberger to start his own water well drilling and service company.
In February of 1971, he opened Wied Hardware, Inc and ran his business until his retirement. Afterwards, he continued to ranch and give his children "expert" advice, wanted or not.
Dillard is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Louise Stroman Wied; brother, Franklin Wied and sister, Bonnie Wolfshohl.
He leaves behind many fond memories that will be forever cherished by his children, Mark (Helen) Wied, Annette W. (Marty) Sorrells both of Hebbronville and Franklin (Patti) Wied of Victoria, Texas; brothers, Herbert (+Ada) Wied of Alton, Texas and Perry (+Sally) Wied of Hebbronville; seven grandchildren, Ann Jene Wied, Justin Wied, Fallon (Tommy) Cremar, Cameron Wied, Christopher (Erin) Sorrells, Meghan (Eric) Reid and Kasey Sorrells and two great-grandchildren, Kylie Cremar and Kelsea Cremar and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Sorrells, Tommy Cremar, Justin Wied, Cameron Wied, Walter Stroman, Roy Tim Stroman, Thomas Gray and Tony Wolfshohl. Honorary Pallbearers will be Billy Felton, Bobby Fulbright, George Newman.
Holy Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, October 28, 2019 at Funeraria Del Angel Howard-Williams in Hebbronville with Visitation beginning at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Hebbronville. Burial will follow at the Greenhill Cemetery in Jim Hogg County.
