

Passed peacefully in the presence of loving family on March 3, 2012 at the Virginian in Fairfax, VA. She was a lifelong homemaker who long ago retired from her part-time job as a cafeteria worker at Thoreau Intermediate School in Dunn Loring.
Mrs. Cardwell was born in Kentucky and spent her early years there, earning the title of Miss Williamsburg as a high school senior. Soon thereafter she worked for a short time in Oak Ridge, Tennessee during World War II.
She relocated to Northern Virginia and met Quinn, the love of her life. They were married in December, 1946, and were long-time residents of Vienna until Quinn died in 1997. She moved to the Virginian in 2003 where she enjoyed her later years.
Survivors include her daughter, Phyllis Sakole of Locust Grove, VA; son, Stephen Cardwell of Annandale, VA and son, Michael Cardwell of Placentia, California; as well as grandsons, Tom and Steve Sakole; and four great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Cardwell's family plans a memorial ceremony to celebrate her life at her gravesite at National Memorial Park in Falls Church in June.
