Mary Del Basso

Mary Del Basso, age 88, of Bayside, New York passed away on Monday, October 23, 2023. Mary was the only child of Domenick and Rose Budinich who emigrated from what is now Croatia in the early twentieth century. She was raised on the west side of central Manhattan in a tightly woven Croatian community. She married Carmine Del Basso upon graduating high school and was his ever loving ‘Gina’ until his passing in 2016, some 63 years later. They moved to Bayside in 1963. She worked intermittently as a seamstress.

Reunited, Mary and Carmine are survived by their only child, Steven, his wife Maureen, four grandsons, Connor, Christopher, Brendan, and Stephan (Chip), their spouses (Claudia, Kelsey, and Ashley), and three great grandchildren (Mira, Nika, and Eleanor). Mary and Carmine, along with ‘Uncle’ Edi, were devoted to the boys.

Mary was a vibrant, fun loving, caring, people-person. She enjoyed dancing, fishing, poker, slots, bowling, cooking, and cruising with family and friends. She had a selfless love, always centered outward. To say that she was loved dearly seems inadequate. Mary suffered a long decline due to dementia following the death of her husband. As it is written, there is a time to mourn and a time to dance. As we mourn her passing there is solace in knowing that Mary danced.

A visitation for Mary will be held Sunday, October 29, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Frederick Funeral Home, 192-15 Northern Boulevard, Flushing, NY 11358. Funeral Mass on Monday, October 30, 2023 at 9:45 AM at Our Lady of Blessed Sacrament Church, 34-24 203rd Street, Bayside, NY 11361. Interment to follow at St. Raymond's Cemetery, 2600 Lafayette Avenue, Bronx, NY 10465.
