Sudhir Sathe, age 76, died of natural causes at his home in Cooper City, Florida on January 25, 2020. He is survived by his wife Sujata, son Rahul Sathe, daughter Nina Haugen, their spouses Melissa Sathe and Eric Haugen and three grandchildren, Karina Haugen, Dilan Sathe, and Kiran Sathe.
He was born in the town of Pen in Maharashtra, India on February 23, 1944, to Govind and Shakuntala Sathe as the 4th of 5 children. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering at Bombay University. His adventurous spirit led him to immigrate to the United States in 1970 at the age of 26. He had little money in his first few years in America but worked very hard to establish himself. Soon after he went on to get a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Polytechnic University in Brooklyn, New York.
Sudhir went on to have a very successful career as a project manager at Foster Wheeler Engineering spanning over 35 years, where he specialized in the building of oil and petroleum refineries across the globe. His career fed his wanderlust of travel and allowed him to work on projects in South America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Over the years, Sudhir and Sujata’s love of travel took them to dozens of countries and a total of six continents. While they raised their family in New Jersey and Houston, they also enjoyed living abroad in Buenos Aires, London, Madrid, Rome, and Beijing before retiring in Cooper City, Florida to be close to their son and grandchildren.
As part of his love for his new home country, Sudhir became an avid baseball fan and a passionate follower of the New York Yankees. He was also an expert of the card game bridge, joining many bridge clubs over the years with his wife as his bridge partner. In his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren and friends in the warm Florida sunshine after spending countless winters in the Northeast. Sudhir will be remembered as a smart, determined, kind and loving man with an easy going and gentle personality.
Following a private family ceremony, a public reception is scheduled for January 29, 2020 at 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm at Forest Lawn Funeral Home South, 2401 Davie Road, Davie, Florida 33317.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks a tribute donation be made in Sudhir’s honor to The Parkinson’s Foundation.
