Harriett E. Facks

Harriett E. Facks, 95, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Sunday, November 8, 2020. She was born to the late Joseph L. and Harriett (Cambray) McClure in Fort Wayne on May 27, 1925. She was married to the late Edward A. Facks. They were united in marriage at Emmaus Lutheran Church on July 2, 1949. Harriett worked for General Electric in Ft. Wayne during World War II. She entered the workforce at the time to support the war effort and ease the labor shortage. She and other women like her were fondly called “Rosie the Riveter Girls”, a nod to the famous wartime posters. When the war was over she transferred to Magnavox where she met her husband Ed. She worked there for 50 years before retiring in 2000. Magnavox honored her prior to her retirement with a “Harriett Facks’ Day” to commemorate her long tenure with the company.

Harriett and Ed were inseparable. They loved their long time home on Fiesta Way. They enjoyed baking Christmas cookies. They loved pool parties at their home for the large family Harriett had. Harriett was one of 9 children. She was lovingly called “Sister” by her brothers as she was the only girl in her family. Her brothers and their families were close. Celebrations of holidays were much anticipated each year. The family wishes to thank brother and sister in law, Philip and Marge McClure for the care given to Harriett in recent years spent at Coventry Meadows.

She was a long time member at Holy Cross Lutheran Church. She and Ed were active members supporting the work of the church in various capacities over the years. Harriett was a long time donor to the American Red Cross. She regularly donated blood and plasma to her local chapter of the Red Cross.

Harriett is survived by her daughter, Suzanne (Regis) Chamberlin; 4 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and brother, Phillip and Albert McClure. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed in 2002. Her brothers Joseph, Robert, Richard, Harry (Bill), James, and J.T. preceded her. She was also preceded in death by her grandson, Mark Chamberlin.

Funeral service will be on Friday, November 20, 2020 at Hockemeyer and Miller Funeral Home (6131 St. Joe Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46835) at 1:00 pm with visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow the service at Concordia Gardens Cemetery.
