Joseph (Joe) Schiro was born May 17, 1925 in Pueblo, Colorado. He passed quietly July 02, 2016. He was preceded in death by his daughter Patty Sue Coldwater and his wife of 67 years, Patty Schiro. He is survived by his son, Frank Schiro, daughter-in-law, Robin Schiro, son-in law, Frank Coldwater, and many loved nieces and nephews.
Joe always had a twinkle in his bright blue eyes, a smile and a hug ready for all he met. He was known for his sweetness and affectionate manner.
Joe’s lifelong focus was always on his family first and family meant all to him. He was enthusiastically, always patriotic and loved his country. He loved fishing, woodworking, coin collecting, dabbling in the stock market and had a magic green thumb when it came to gardening, especially growing tomatoes.
Joe grew up with his dad, Charles Vincenzo, his mom, Josephine, his sister, Susie, and his brothers Frank, Charlie and Bennie on a farm in Sugar City, Colorado. When World War II hit, Joe was quick to enlist right after high school and served in the 12th Army Air Force in the European Theatre from 1943 to 1945.
Joe met his lifetime love and partner, Patty, after World War II when Patty was a teacher in Olney Springs, Colorado and Joe had returned home to Sugar City. Story has it that she whistled at the handsome veteran and he could not resist turning around and meeting her. They were happily married for 67 years. Patty and Joe lived in Pueblo, Colorado until retiring and moving to Loveland, Colorado to be closer to their two children. They attended the Loveland Church of Christ throughout that time.
Services will be held to remember Joe on Saturday, July 9th at 10:00 AM at the Loveland Church of Christ located at 4100 S. Taft Avenue, Loveland, Colorado. Burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery at 8426 S. Hwy 287, Fort Collins, CO at 11:30 AM.
The family requests that donations be sent to the Associated Veterans of Loveland in care of Resthaven Funeral Home.
