Garry was born June 14th 1935 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Earl and Peggy Jones. Garry graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1953 and then joined the United States Air Force serving proudly for 4 years. It was later in life when a friend would introduce him to the love of his life, Teresa Soliz. In July Garry would move to Kansas City to start their life together and in that same month they would get married on July 27, 1991, and from then on they would not leave each other’s side in all their adventures. Garry worked for and retired from Southwestern Bell for 37 years.
Garry was a jack of all trades, but loved family more than anything. He played a huge part in raising Billy. Garry also had a strong passion for fishing and being in or around the water. He enjoyed traveling, family gatherings (like making tamales, and enchiladas). Loved Chiefs Football, Royals Baseball, and especially NASCAR races. He took great pride that he and Teresa were in attendance for the Daytona 500 and were able to see Dale Earnhardt, Sr. win in 1998. Garry had a very recognizable laugh which was very contagious as well as he enjoyed playing all kind of games including Pinochle and Farkle.
Garry was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, June Jones, his son, Tracy Jones; and his brother, Lanny Jones.
Survivors include his wife Teresa Jones; son, Billy (Cassie) Lewis; grandchildren, Billy Lewis, Nova Lewis, Mac Befort, and Mackenzie Befort.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Saturday, October 1st at 12 PM, with a luncheon. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Garry's life. (White Chapel Funeral Home, Gladstone, Missouri)
In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be sent to the American Heart Association in Garry’s name.
The Family would like to thank the St. Luke’s North Hospital ICU Nurses and everyone that helped make his final days peaceful. He will be truly missed…
Memory of Me
I'd like the memory of me
to be a happy one.
I'd like to leave an afterglow
of smiles when life is done.
I'd like to leave an echo
whispering softly down the ways,
of happy times and laughing times,
and bright and sunny days.
I'd like the tears of those who grieve,
to dry before the sun,
with all of the happy memories
that I leave when my life is done.
