Patrick J. Locy

Patrick James Locy born April 16, 1949, was the only son of James A. Locy and Margery (Blake) Locy [both deceased]. He was also predeceased by a half-sister, Linda Treat, whose daughters Rhonda & Kim survive him. He was born in Ft. Riley, Kansas and liked to say he was from “everywhere.” His father served in the Air Force and the family lived a variety of places, including twice in the Philippines.

After high school he served in the Marine Corps. After his discharge, he moved to Mesa to be near his widowed mother. He attended Mesa Community College and also met his lifetime friend Doug Fraser in a local donut shop. They shared a love of cars, in particular their Roadrunners.

In 1976, recovering from divorce, a work friend (George Kaufmann) invited him to Trinity where he met Pastor Don Yoder. Through counseling with Don, he came to know Christ as Savior, changing his view of life. George & Diane remained close friends. Pat was in their home when one of their children was born at home; he later bought their house, so they could complete a move to Oregon.

In 1977 he met Carolyn Schaefer at Trinity. They were married by Don Yoder on July 7, 1979. During the early years of their marriage, Pat worked fulltime at Salt River Project, while earning a degree in Business Administration and obtaining a Certified Computer Professional distinction. Pat had completed 42 years of employment with SRP at the time of his death. He was well respected by co-workers and managers alike, for his dedication to work, his listening ear, and his compassionate spirit.

His predominant hobby was target shooting and reloading. He requested his pacemaker insertion in 2015 be on the right side so he could continue to rifle shoot left-handed. He was looking forward to building a hobby room for his reloading activities after his retirement.

Pat’s interest in investing led him to be an active member of MICA, MEDA Investment Club of Arizona, where he also developed a number of close friendships. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge of selecting investments. He became Trinity’s Everence Advocate, gathering data to request grants for Goldensun and Hospitality Service Center, and learning about and sharing Everence products that would be valuable to graduates, newlyweds, and new parents.

His interest in helping young people develop strong work habits led him to employ Carolyn’s great-nephews, Erik and Daniel as “part time groundskeepers” at the Locy’s acre property. He enjoyed Carolyn’s family immensely, especially eating out and playing table games. He was pleased to be able to provide transportation to church for Carolyn’s parents for many years.

Patrick’s health further declined this year, after 3 years of kidney failure and dialysis, when he was diagnosed with heart valve disease and received an aortic valve replacement. While his health seemed briefly restored through the month of September, he again experienced reduced heart function and passed away November 29 after a brief hospitalization.
