OBITUARY

Calvin Ross TerHaar

25 March, 19555 July, 2021

Calvin Ross TerHaar, age 66, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, July 5, 2021. God so lovingly walked with him during his long health journey with mulitple myeloma. Cal was preceded in death by his father, Russell TerHaar and nephew, Tim TerHaar.

God blessed him greatly with Suanne, his wife of 38 years; three children and their spouses Bill (Lisa Knot), Brian (Emily Rietberg), and Laura (Jason) King; grandchildren Joel Calvin King, Anna Grace King, Kyle Robert King, Russell Wayne TerHaar, Toby Jacob King, Henry Brian TerHaar, Alivia Rae TerHaar, Leah Faith King, and one new TerHaar baby due very soon. They will miss him very much. He will also be remembered by his dear mother, Beatrice TerHaar; siblings Mary (Jim) Koster, Mark (Cheryl) TerHaar, and Randy (Lisa) TerHaar; as well as several nieces, nephews, and friends.

Cal strived to live out the words of Jesus to love the Lord his God with all his heart, soul, mind, and strength, and his neighbor as himself. He always displayed a deep love for his family and friends and enjoyed sharing his faith and the good news of salvation to all he came to know. He served as a deacon, elder, and Sunday school teacher in each of the churches he and his family attended. He enjoyed being active in various recreational activities, especially the men's cycling group he participated in with his good friends. Cal graduated from Davenport College and worked over the years in warehouse and distribution supervisorial roles at local companies.

Visitation with friends and relatives will take place from 3-7 p.m. Thursday, July 8, 2021 at Fellowship Reformed Church, 6610 36th Street, Hudsonville, MI 49426. A Celebration of Cal’s Life will take place 11 a.m. Friday, July 9, 2021, with Pastor Shawn Hulst and Tom Broughton officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to Crossroads Prison Ministry and the Eastern Ottawa Special Ministries where Cal volunteered. Interment will be at Georgetown Cemetery with family. Memories and messages are welcomed in their guest book online at www.cookcaresgrandville.com.

Cal and I shared a special bond talking about our multiple myeloma. When I first heard that he had the same cancer, I prayed about what I would say to him. Cal and Suanne made it very easy. I was able to share my journey and we talked about God’s plan. In the next year, Cal had any ups and downs battling this cancer. What I will always remember is their kindness, acceptance of whatever God’s will was and his love for God. I will miss you Cal but know the battle is won, you fought the good fight, and now able to be free and praise and glorify God.

We watched Cal grow up, and had the privilege of helping him understand math/ Geometry/ ??? in while in high school - spent a few evenings with him figuring out problems and enjoying a few snacks . Our dog 'Bingo' was ever vigilant when he took his dental 'retainer' out, sort of reminding him to put it back when he was finished with his snack. He was a special guy.
