Dorothy was born on September 29, 1926 in North Platte, Nebraska. The daughter of John W. Weems and Bertha Ann (Smith) Weems, Dorothy spent her early childhood in Nebraska and Wyoming before the family moved to Julesburg. She attended school in Julesburg and graduated high school in Waxahachie, Texas. She married Alexander John Gerk on July 8, 1951 and they had three children; John Kent, Stephen Alexander, and Kathleen Sue. Dorothy enjoyed cooking for family, singing at church, and being with friends. She was a homemaker, and active in the Assembly of God Church in Julesburg and Big Springs, Nebraska, before moving to Greeley, Colorado.
She was preceded in death by her husband Alex, daughter Kathy, and son Kent. She is survived by her son Stephen and his wife, Denise; daughter- in- law, Tracy Jacobsen and her husband, Andrew; son- in- law, Dan Orcutt, and 24 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
