Hugh Merrill Ronning passed away on November 25th, 2018 in Portland, Oregon. He was born on August 25th, 1945 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Ingvald and Elva (Quilling) Ronning. He attended Sidney High School in Montana. In March of 1963, Hugh enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served until his honorable discharge in January of 1967. For his service, he received the Navy Unit Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
Hugh was married to his first wife Renee Price from 1968-1975. They had 4 children together. Hugh met his future wife, Diana Endresen, at a Country Music Dance Hall. They were married on August 25, 1976. They had a wonderful life together. They enjoyed creating artwork, and Hugh enjoyed promoting Diana’s artwork. He created custom pistol pieces and belt buckles which he sold on e-bay. While living in Bigfork, Montana, they had an art gallery where their pieces were on display. Hugh was an avid collector of trading cards, as well as bobble heads.
Hugh worked as a cement finisher for the majority of his career. He enjoyed working with his hands, and he will always be remembered for his craftsmanship. He was a member of the Elks, and was raised Protestant.
Hugh was preceded in death by his parents, and his stepdaughter Toni Miles. He is survived by his loving wife, Diana Ronning; his daughters, Moneika Rupert, Amber Axtman and Sondra Brickell; his son, Heath Ronning; his stepson, Curt Miles; his sister, Patricia Hart; as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, December 1st, 2018, at 2:00 pm at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home in Gresham, Oregon. Viewing will be held prior to the service at 12:00 pm. Hugh will be laid to rest at Willamette National Cemetery, where a private service will be held for the family.
