Betty was one of eleven children, of the late Alfred Thomas and Laura May (Anderson) Ryan of Halifax. Born in Waterville, NS, the family moved to Kingston, NS in 1937, where Betty later attended school. Betty moved to Halifax in the late 1940’s, where she was active with ‘Youth for Christ’, while attending Full Gospel Church. After her marriage to Austin, she would attend West End Baptist.
In addition to her parents, Betty was predeceased by husband William (Bill) Curry 2018, and first husband Austin Clarke 1964; brothers, Alfred, James, Wilbert, Joseph, William, Robert (Korea, 1952), Ronald and sisters, Margaret and Ruby.
Following the death of her first husband, Austin Clarke, Betty and her daughters moved to Ontario in 1965. She started working in the bank as a teller and moved up to become assistant manager. She loved her work there and her love for bookkeeping came in handy over the years, with the many things she was involved with. Upon returning to Halifax in 1982, she eventually worked at the Canadian Bible Society until retirement. Betty attended Bayers Road Baptist church for many years, and participated in various ministries there, making friendships that lasted many years. After marrying Bill Curry, in 1998, her ministry attention moved to those at Grace Bible Chapel where she gave generously of her time working in the kitchen; cooking and baking for seniors’ dinners, as well as many years in the kitchen at Malagash Bible camp. Betty also helped with the Sunday suppers outreach, where she touched the lives of many!
She was a loving mother to her three daughters, Sharon Clarke, Beverly Clarke, and Monica (Robert)Stevens; dear grandmother to Karri-Lynn (Richard) Rees, Toronto, ON, Darryl (Mulholland), AB, Josiah (Stevens), NS, Krysten(Stevens)AB; great-grandmother to Levi. Betty is also survived by sister Edith Bishop of Mississauga, ON; stepsons David (Dawn) Curry, and Glen Curry; step-grandsons, Gregory (Curry), Liam (Curry); step-great grandson Marcus, as well as many nieces and nephews.
