
- Another WWII vet passed into the memory of family and friends January 14, 2012. Dave grew up in the Towson/Baltimore area attending Baltimore Polytechnic Institute ('44). After serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps, he returned to Maryland joining the many veterans attending the University of Maryland, earning his degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was a charter member of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity, Delta Sigma Chapter making many lifelong friends. After graduation, he continued his service to America as an officer of the U.S. Air Force Reserves. He enjoyed a long career with AMP Inc., Harrisburg, PA, receiving nine patents for various new tools and new products. Dave greatly served his community by chairing the first Planning Commission of Marysville, writing the zoning laws. Through his position, he helped the Marysville Library expand.
- Dave died in the arms of his beloved wife Eileen at the Carolyn Croxton Slane Hospice Residence, after a long, courageous battle to overcome a fall trauma. He is also survived by his cherished son David (Donna), 3 treasured grandsons Brian, Kevin and Adam; brother, Col Richard Benfer (Jeanneane) and their sons Richard, Jim and Jack and their families; brother Donald Benfer (Carolyn) and their sons Keith and Eric and their families. Also celebrating his life and mourning his death are special cousins Jon, Julie, Jill, Jana, Carole, Vinie, Peggy and George. Thank you Julie for the many flights you took from CA to PA to comfort and to encourage Dave as he tried to recover. Special thanks to dear and steadfast friends Dave Myers, Paul Heintzman and Carl Saylor for their many visits and kindnesses. Thanks to the many doctors, nurses, therapists and CNAs whose skills and kindnesses benefited his life. Dave exemplified Dylan Thomas'... "Old age should burn and rave at close of day... rage, rage against the dying of the light... do not go gentle into that good night."
- A celebration of life will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bethany United Methodist Church, 400 Lansvale St., Marysville, PA 17053, the Wounded Warrior Project, www.woundedwarriorproject.org, the Carolyn Croxton Slane Residence or another charity of your choice.
