

Born in the small town of Renovo, PA, on February 2, 1938, David was the son of the late John Patrick and Gladys Mae (McConaghay) Long.
David is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Suzanne Marie; his son, Patrick and daughter-in-law Monica of Clayton, Delaware; and two beloved granddaughters, Emily and Kelsey. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
David graduated from St. Joseph’s High School in Renovo in 1956, he went on to attend The Pennsylvania State University and earned both a Bachelor of Science in Art Education and a Master of Science in School Counseling.
David dedicated over three decades of his life to education, retiring from the Central Dauphin School District after 32 years as a Junior High School Counselor. He was known for his calm guidance, compassion, and dedication to the students and families he served.
Outside of his career, David found joy in many hobbies. He was a lover of folk music, enjoyed photography, an avid fisherman, and a ham radio operator. He also had a deep and lifelong affection for Collies, having shared his life with six of them over the years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: Thomas, Donald, and Patrick.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, July 11, 2025, at St. Margaret Mary Church, Harrisburg (2800 Paxton Church Rd.). The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery
