He was born on February 28, 1939 in Miami, Florida to George Gardner Bow and Carrie Belle Caves Bow. He graduated from South Dade High School in 1957, where he played football and was a member of the band. Shortly after graduation, he hired on with Southern Bell locally, beginning a long career in Construction.
On June 18, 1961, George married Molly Calderwood Richard. They, with their small children, moved to Lafayette in 1972, where in addition to his career, he was a long-time parishioner at St. Barnabas’ Episcopal Church. He also served for years as a high school football referee. In 1989, he and Molly moved to Vestavia Hills, where he eventually retired from BellSouth, and had a second career with Star Construction as a quality supervisor. He was a long time parishioner and vestryman at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, in Bluff Park, where he was renowned for both cooking and his avid support of LSU football.
He is survived by his wife, brothers, Robert Caves Bow and William Lawrence Bow, children, Amanda Jane Bow Lantz, Nancy Lynn Bow McCrary (Michael), and George Albert Bow, Jr., grandchildren Duncan Patrick McCrary, Kathleen Amelia McCrary, George Greyson Bow and John Miles Prescott Bow, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Wallace Johnston Bow, and grandson Andrew Edward McCrary.
A memorial service will be held at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church when it is safe for all to be together.
