Harold Wayne Tyra, of Indianapolis, passed away Friday, December 21, 2018. He was born November 29, 1931 in Connersville, Indiana to the late Preston L and Edith Marie (Ward) Tyra. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Jane (Fox) Tyra and brother Bill Tyra. Wayne was a US Navy veteran during the Korean War and earned two service stars. He worked over 50 years as an engineer with Allison Transmission and received several recognitions for his work there including on the Abrams tank transmission. Wayne most valued his faith and family as an active member of Gray Road Baptist Church since 1986, participating in the choir. He enjoyed playing guitar and wrote a bit of music as well. People were drawn to him anywhere he went.
Wayne is survived by his sons, David Tyra (Rae Anne), Steve Tyra (Kristy), and Curt Tyra (Liz); grandchildren, Joshua Tyra, Amy Lore (Lennon), Courtney Strain (Cody), Zachary Tyra (Christy), Jordan Tyra (Shayna), Tyler Tyra, Aiden Tyra, and Benjamin Tyra; great grandchildren, Andrew and August Lore; and many extended family members and friends.
Visitation will be 4 pm to 8 pm Thursday, December 27, 2018 and from 9 am to 10 am Friday, December 28, 2018 at Gray Road Baptist Church, 5500 Gray Rd., Indianapolis, Indiana 46237. His Funeral Service will be 10 am Friday, December 28, 2018 at the church with burial to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Greenwood, Indiana.
