Hillary Byron Tanner (age 101) passed away the morning of June 15, 2021 in Jackson, MS. Visitation will be Thursday, June 17, 2021 beginning at 10:00 a.m. with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. at Lakewood Funeral Home.
Byron Tanner was a proud United States Marine who served in the Pacific Islands during World War II. Over the years he shared his experiences with many audiences at museums and Memorial Day events. He retired from the Mississippi Department of Transportation as a Survey Engineer. He was married to his late wife Willie Mae Riley Tanner of Pontotoc, MS for 64 years. Byron had a long and happy life and was loved by all who knew him.
He is survived by his sister-in-law Mary Faith Phillips of French Camp, MS; children Phillip Tanner of Madison, MS; Joe Tanner of Booneville, MS (Emily); Judy Moulder of Brandon, MS (Daniel); Chalise Whitehead of Ridgeland, MS (Seth); eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The family is grateful to Myrtle and Covenant Caregivers who helped care for him in his final years.
