Edna Mable Gardner Micili, 93, passed away on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 in Jacksonville, FL. Mable was born in Sycamore, GA on November 15, 1927 to Lee and Florence Royal Gardner. She had a brother, the late T.L. Womack; twin sisters Charlotte Campbell and Cathryn Clemmons; and grew up with friends Margaret Fountain Zorn, Mary John Rodgers Reinhardt and Barbara Hardy White.
The family moved to Jacksonville, FL in 1943 where she attend Andrew Jackson High School and marched with the Pepperettes at all the football games in the Gator Bowl. She was a freshman at Florida State College for Women in 1945, but graduated from Florida State University in 1949 with a degree in Clothing and Textiles. In 1950 she moved to Independence, MO where she lived with her sister and her sister’s husband, Cathryn and Hugh Clemmons and their children Gail and Ed Clemmons. She worked at Pecks and Rothchilds Man Apparel; at Jones as assistant manager of the children’s department. When she returned to Jacksonville, FL in 1956 she met and married Salvatore Joseph Miceli in 1959. They moved to Long Island, NY where she received her Master’s Degree in Library Science at C.W. Post (now Long Island University). Mable taught in Sachem School District as an elementary school librarian for 25 years. Upon retiring in 1989, she took a tour of Tahiti, Australia, New Zealand and Fiji for a month with friends Alice Phillips and Edna Hayes. Returning to the States she lived in Santa Fe, NM for almost a year. She enjoyed visiting the West. In 1990 she built her home in Jacksonville, FL and enjoyed working the libraries in The First Baptist Church and Lake Shore Baptist Church.
She is survived by nieces and nephews Charlene Campbell Wren, William David Campbell III, Flossy Campbell, Gail Clemmons Sisson and Hugh Ed Clemmons. She was preceded in death by her sister Cathryn Clemmons in 1999 and sister Charlotte Gardner Campbell in 2016.
A visitation for Edna will be held Thursday, September 30, 2021 from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Hardage-Giddens, Riverside Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Boulevard, Jacksonville, FL 32205. Following the visitation will be a graveside service at 11:00 AM at Riverside Memorial Park, 7242 Normandy Boulevard, Jacksonville, FL 32205.
