Funeral services will be held privately via Zoom with other services provided for family and friends.
John Tave was born in Mineola, Texas to James Henry Tave Sr., and Theona Mae Vaudin Giles., on February 15, 1941. He attended McFarland High School in Mineola Texas and graduated from Mineola High in 1958, before setting off to explore the world as an eager young boy that would change the lives of many people throughout his lifetime.
John was the 2nd of eight children born from the union of Theona and James. He is preceded in death by his siblings James Tave, Jr., Otis Tave, and Luther Tave, and his son Jerrod Acy and daughter Monica Tave.
John served in the United States Navy from 1958 – 1968, earning an Expeditionary Service Medal from the Lebanon/Cuba crisis of 1960/1961. He then went on to complete 33 years of service at CSX Transportation in Jacksonville, Florida, where he retired as Chairman of Safety within the organization, an extraordinary honor for the former Signal Maintainer.
In 1978, John married his wife of 42 1/2 years, Pauletta Howard Tave, in Jacksonville, Florida. Together they raised his children Andrew, Cynetta, Jo’nathan, PeTika, Scott, and Vanessa. He is also survived by his children from previous unions and marriage; Jonathan, Vanessa Acy, Val Wayne, Sandra, Nick, Neal, Jim Poon, and Craig; siblings Thelma Louise Tave, Patsy Webster, Joe Tave, and Steve Tave, along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other family, and friends.
John was a member of North Pearl Street Baptist Church, where he performed many duties and led the congregation as head of barbecuing and fish frying – serving up delicious meals and a lot of wisdom - qualities that many cherish.
Although he will be missed, we look forward to God’s promise of a resurrection. We also take comfort in God’s words from Revelation 21:3-4, which reads, “With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: Look! The tent of God is within mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his people. And God himself will be with them. And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”
