

Lorene Hartley Smith (MeMe), 75, beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-grandmother, Sister, Aunt and friend to many passed away October 20, 2013 after a short illness at Northeast Florida Community Hospice. She was a native of Mandarin, FL. She is a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Mandarin, FL. She is predeceased by her husband, Cecil E. Smith (Smitty), her sisters, Joyce Tanner, Betty Wishard, and her brother, Melvin Hartley. She is survived by her daughters, Eva L. McLoon (Joe) and Roxanne Bell and her son, Gary L. Smith (Carolyn). Her sisters, Laverne Connor, Shirley Robbins; twin sister, Florene Markham and brother, Bernard Hartley (Ruth), and numerous nieces and nephews. She was a beloved and wonderful grandmother, blessed with 9 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was known to them as their “Meme.” She was well known for her cooking, especially her potato salad and her interest in gardening. She was a retired employee of Publix Supermarkets and owner of the Bagel Factory in Mandarin, FL. A special thank you to the staff at NE FL Community Hospice for your dedicated care that you gave our Mother and your support to our family through her illness. Thank you to her family (especially Aunt Ruth), friends, church family, and to Pastor Jeff Smith for all of your support and prayers through her illness. Visitation will be held from 6-8pm on Wednesday, October 23 in Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin. The Funeral Service will be held at 11am on Thursday, October 24 in the Chapel of Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin with Reverend Jeffrey Smith as officiant. Interment will follow in Jacksonville Memory Gardens, Orange Park.
