Donna passed from this world into an eternal life with her Lord and Savior on Mother’s Day weekend, May 12th, 2018 at the age of 56. After her long battle with cancer, Donna received the best gift she could have gotten for Mother’s Day: no more sorrow, no more pain, and life in eternity with Jesus and all those who went to heaven before her. She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Gary Stevenson, and her two sisters, Debbie Machac (Terry), and Dortha Poore. Donna left behind four children: daughter, Sarah Stevenson, and three sons, Derek Stevenson, Justin Stevenson (Maci), and Bryan “Matthew” Stevenson. Donna’s beloved grandchildren Briana, Abygail, and Arian will miss her greatly. Her grand-dog Chica has missed her dearly since she left her side during her latest battle with her illness. Donna will also be greatly missed by her nieces and nephews, Erica, Erin, Kristen, Michael, and their families. She is survived by her stepmother, Kay White, her aunt and uncle, Cynthia and Sam Whitson, and her aunt, Dee Delapaz. Donna was preceded in death by her mother, Sarah Kurtz White; Father, Maurice “Reese” White; Brother, William Michael White; sister-in-law, Patricia White; and brother-in-law, Robert Poore. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and all the many people touched by her loving spirit throughout her life.
Donna graduated from Westbury High School in 1980 and later married the love of her life, Gary Edward Stevenson on March 23, 1985. She was totally dedicated to her children in all aspects of their lives and devoted everything she had to them. She will continue to influence their lives forever. Donna worked at many companies throughout her life, but her most treasured position was with The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX, where she worked from 1994 until 2008. She was always proud that she worked for one of the largest, top ranked names in cancer treatment and research. Her last position, as a Senior Academic Coordinator was a true accomplishment, which always gave her a great sense of pride. She was always very optimistic, and often taught the meaning of true happiness with her words of wisdom to everyone around her. She brought hope, encouragement, and her powerful example to many who shared a path of recovery with her for nearly a decade. In addition to being a loving mother and grandmother, she poured her love and nurturance on the young and new people who sought help through twelve step recovery. The seeds of faith and strength she sowed will grow and bear fruit for decades to come. Her love of sports started early in her life when she joined her parents in supporting the Houston Oilers. Through the years, everyone close to her knew that when her hometown teams, the Houston Texans, the Houston Astros, and the Houston Rockets were playing it was time to sit down, be quiet, and watch the game. Her favorite Houston Texan, J. J. Watt was especially dear to her heart.
A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held on Monday, June 4, 2018 @ 10 A.M. at Living Word Church, 16607 Clay Rd., Houston, TX 77084, with a reception to follow in the Chapel at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to MD Anderson “Fund Designated by Family” or the Justin J. Watt Foundation.
