August 31, 1958 – October 8, 2025
Gary Plamondon was born on August 31, 1958, in Stockwell, Indiana, to Della Marie VanCourt and Albert Alfred Plamondon. He was the oldest of three children, growing up alongside his brother, David, and sister, Dori. From a young age, Gary showed a remarkable passion for basketball, a sport that would play a defining role throughout his life. During his years at Central Catholic High School in Lafayette, Indiana, he earned the title of “All-Time Career Scoring Leader” in 1977, a distinction he proudly held for several years. His talent and dedication to the game led him to Western Carolina University, where he played for one year before continuing his basketball career at St. Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, Indiana. Gary graduated with a degree in business, laying the foundation for his future professional endeavors.
Gary’s career spanned various management roles in retail and logistics, where his sharp business sense and fascination with mathematics served him well. His work ethic, leadership, and curiosity about how things worked defined his professional life as much as his personal one.
In 1985, Gary married the love of his life, Diana Want. Together, they built a life grounded in love, laughter, and deep family connection. He was a devoted husband and a proud father to Laura Hernandez and Allory Plamondon. Gary’s joy grew even greater with the arrival of his grandchildren, Eloise, Reid, and Hudson Hernandez, whom they affectionately called “Grandpy.” He also shared a close bond with his son-in-law, Rudy Hernandez, and cherished every moment spent with his extended family.
Gary is survived by his wife, Diana Plamondon; his daughters, Laura Hernandez and Allory Plamondon; his son-in-law, Rudy Hernandez; his grandchildren, Eloise, Reid, and Hudson; his brother, David Plamondon; and his sister, Dori Plamondon. He also leaves behind several nieces and a nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, Della VanCourt and Albert Plamondon.
Gary was a man of many interests and endless curiosity. He enjoyed organizing projects and exploring history, and he had a gift for remembering and sharing the details that others might forget. He enjoyed running errands with his grandchildren, engaging in meaningful conversations, and staying up-to-date with sports statistics.
Gary’s legacy lives on through the family he loved so deeply and the many lives he touched along the way. He will be remembered for his intelligence, his humor, his devotion, and the joy he brought to every room he entered.
