Her parents, Rollin and Harriet (Bowen) Shattuck welcomed their daughter into the world on June 8, 1919 in Keene, NH. Dorothy was a graduate of Keene High School.
Known as the Dutchmaid Lady, Dot sold Dutchmaid clothing, and for several years, was the top sales lady in the country. This earned her many memorable trips and experiences. Dutchmaid allowed her the honor to befriend many people far and wide.
Her family was everything to her, especially the little ones. She wasn’t afraid to take a carload or two of grandchildren to an amusement park for the day or to take them on a train ride to New York City for overnights.
Dot and her husband owned Chet’s Esso Station on Washington Street in Keene for many years.
After the passing of her husband, Dot lovingly cared for a new baby, Elizabeth (Zaluki) Griswold, who she considered as another grandchild. She was also involved for many years in the Fresh Air Program.
She will be greatly missed by many especially her family, her three sons, Norris Cashman, Thomas Cashman and William Cashman, all of Keene; a daughter, Katherine Wright and her husband Charlie, of North Swanzey, NH; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren; a special niece, Sally Lazzaro of Swanzey, NH; two nephews, Bradley Mark of Concord, NH and Terence Mark of Keene; and many other nieces, nephews and extended family members. Dot was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Chesley C. “Chet” Cashman in 1988; a great-grandson, Matthew Cashman; a brother, Rev. Bowen Shattuck; and three sisters, Rosella Shattuck, Wilma Mark and Emogene Trask.
Services for Mrs. Cashman and burial in the Monadnock View Cemetery, Keene, will be private.
