

Sidney T. Foster, Jr. passed away on December 8, 2017. He was born in Bogalusa, LA on October 21, 1938, raised in Carriere, MS, and later moved to the Westbank of Jefferson Parish, LA. Sidney is preceded in death by his father, Sidney T. Foster, Sr., and his mother, Thelma Spiers Foster. Sidney is survived by his beloved wife, Darlene Grundmeyer Foster, his loving children, Debbie McQueen (husband, Dan), Becky Nicholson (husband, Grant), Sidney T. Foster, III, Coty Lyn Foster, John J. Macaluso, III (wife, Lisa), Kim Bonvillain (husband, André), Lisa Poché (husband, John), and Pam Macaluso (partner, Tony). He is also survived by his brothers, Gerald Foster (wife, Betty), Dwain Foster (wife, Brenda), and David Foster, along with 18 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Sidney started his career as a racecar driver in the late 50s, and continued until the early 70s. He was a pioneer in the Hot Rod circuit, being the first Funny Car to break the 200mph barrier. He was inducted into the NHRA ODRR Hall of Fame and was an original member of the 200mph Club. After racing, he became a member of the Gretna Police Force for several years. He worked the remainder of his years as a commercial fisherman until retirement. Sidney enjoyed boiling crabs and crawfish while having family and friends over. He also enjoyed watching NHRA races.
