Deeply saddened to hear of the passing of 'Mum Thorne'. She has left us to join the glorious band of those who have gone before. Our sincerest condolences go out to dear Helena, the family and many friends of 'Mum'. We shall miss our ' chats ' ,usually 2 hour session, the one before last contact was a memorable, 3 hour conversation. Mum was always willing  to give advice. Her many years here on earth provided a wealth of experiences  that she would willingly share. Her recollection of poems, many verses long, was phenomenal ! Mum reminded us on the occasion of her 100th birthday that she was ' a talker and not a speaker'. The memories of Mum will be always with us.

Cousin Eileen, you will always hold a special place in my heart for your generosity, intelligence, strength, love of family and humor. It seems like only yesterday that we met, but in fact, it was at our family reunion in Barbados in 1991. Since that time, my husband Joe I had the honor of making occasional trips to spend time with you, talk about our shared love of Tom Jones and to catch up on life. At your 100th birthday celebration, I saw first hand what a positive impact and influence you have had on so many family, friends and community members, including me. 
You will be missed!

I was glad to celebrate Eileen's 100th birthday with family and friends in Toronto , and was inspired by her ability to recite a very long and favorite poem of hers.  She was a very special lady who loved her independence and was loved by many. She will be truly missed!

I would like to express my heart felt sympathy to Helena and family. 

Mom Thorne, I've always called you that and so have my boys. You have always been an inspiration to us and our family. You have said that my aunt and my mother were like sisters and all I can say is that you were like a thoughtful caring mom with a memory like a sponge and the wisdom of a sage.  Your memory was one I often spoke of when proudly saying "I have a centenarian friend/family member,
someone who has blessed my life and who is amazing and can recite poetry with the best of them, while reminding you of the  many personal experiences she can list off of you and your family". You are where you longed to be, resting at peace and I am happy that I have made it to Kitchener to celebrate your life and to link arms in solidarity with your beloved daughter, Helena. I remember when Mrs Thorne came to see me perform at my polish dances. I was eight years old. I used to send her all kind of drawings, she told me she still kept  them to this day, mine and those of my two daughters, Celeste and Heidi. She followed me with pictures when I got married and sent gifts when my children were born. I appreciated all she did. I also remember celebrating Mrs Thorne's  100th birthday  via our house to her house. Nice memories. She was so nice to talk with. She will be dearly missed by all, may she rest in peace. Our sympathies  go out to Helena and her family.

Mrs  Thorne and my mother were very good  friends. The two of them and I all worked at the Montreal General Hospital. When my mom passed away  Mrs Thorne and I always kept in touch. We talked on the phone and  reminisced about those times and had a good laugh,she said it made her feel good. She was a wonderful lady and an inspiration to me. A long time ago she came  to my house in Laval  and my husband showed her his garden and ever since then I have been sending  her pitures of his garden and flowers. I will miss her phone calls and I will especially miss her. May you rest in peace Mrs Thorne  and may we all meet again someday.Our condolences to Helena and family. Some people have the amazing gift of impacting us in our lives. Even if that impact is through phone calls or even letters. No matter how far away they are, they always seem close at heart. We come across these people only a few times in our lives, so it is with great privilege that we had the chance to know Mum Thorne, has we would call her. She was a warm, loving and caring person, whose voice, even, was full of life and light. Sadly, we only had the opportunity to know her from a distance, but even then will she stay in our hearts and memories forever. She was like our adopted great-grandmother, whose love was infectious. May her journey to heaven find her peace. 

An unforgettable friend!! From happy days spent with Mom & Helena in Montreal to our marathon telephone conversations over the last several years, Mom  was always there for me. My husband & I will miss her.  Rest In Peace, dearest Mom.....
