Elbert Thomas Burwell

Elbert Thomas Burwell, 70, of Lenoir passed away on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care after an extended illness.

Elbert was born in Granville County on August 12, 1948 to the late John Buxton and Doris Riggan Burwell.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, RB Burwell, one sister, Brenda Trivette and a grandson, Timothy Elbert.

Elbert was employed as a carpenter and was the founder of Burwell Construction which he operated with his sons. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved the time he spent outdoors. He also loved the time he was able to spend with his grandchildren.

Elbert was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corp, serving during Vietnam. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Rifle Sharpshooter Badge, Vietnam Campaign Medal and a Combat Action Ribbon. Military Honors will be provided by the United States National Guard and the Disabled American Veterans Honor Guard of Hudson.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 51 ½ years, Brenda Hall Burwell, sons Gene Burwell and wife Tina of Lenoir, Bud Burwell and wife Kristy of Lenoir, daughter Crystal Burwell Dellinger and husband Brian of Granite Falls, a brother, Will Burwell of Hudson, grandchildren, Jacob Dellinger, Dalton Burwell, Josh Dellinger, Daysha Burwell and Madelyn Burwell.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 3, 2018 at 11:00 am in the chapel, at Pendry’s Lenoir Funeral Home with Rev. Alan Beane officiating.

Burial will follow the service in the Hall Family Cemetery in Lenoir.

Serving as pallbearers will be Edward Hollingsworth, Chris Greene, Randy Robins, Ricky Miller, Dustin Craig and John Land. Honorary pallbearers will be Jacob Dellinger, Josh Dellinger, Dalton Burwell, Madelyn Burwell and Daysha Burwell.

The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service, from 10:00 am until 11:00 am.
