Husband, Father, Grandfather, dedicated his life to his family, friends, the Jewish community, and his work.
George Israel Weinberger passed away peacefully on November 5, 2018.
He was born June 1, 1937 in Bayonne, N.J. to the late Joseph and Mary Weinberger. George had one sibling, his beloved brother the late Stanton Weinberger. George grew up in Bayonne and met the love of his life, Sheila Gross in 1962. They went on to be happily married for over 55 years. George and Sheila had two children – a son, Mark and a daughter, Sheryl.
After graduating from Farleigh Dickinson in 1960, George earned his CPA and began his 46-year career with the accounting firm of J.H. Cohn & Co. in Roseland, N.J. He was an outstanding tax accountant and became a partner in J.H. Cohn in 1969.
In addition to his being a very accomplished accountant, he dedicated himself to the community at Temple Beth Shalom in Livingston, NJ, where was an active member for over 40 years. Over the course of those 40 years, George held many important positions including Men’s Club president, and Treasurer and Vice President of the Temple Board. It was during his tenure as Vice President that he oversaw the construction of a new building at the Temple housing the school, social hall and other facilities.
As important as all of these achievements were, nothing gave George more joy than spending time with his family: his wife Sheila, his son Mark and wife Serilyn, his daughter Sheryl and, most of all, his grandchildren: Jordana and Sam, and step-grandchildren, Sophia and Marcus; all of whom survive him.
