Emmanuel "Manny" Miruzzi

Emmanuel "Manny" L. Miruzzi, age 82, of Livonia, Michigan passed away on Wednesday April 8, 2020. Beloved husband of Judith for 58 wonderful years. Loving father of Anne Marie (Larry Mills), Angeline (John) Cooney, Christine (Richard) Schulkey, the late Gregory, Elizabeth (William) Ross, and Francesca (Mark) Pierzecki. Cherished Nanu (Grandfather) of Gregory, Thomas, Angelina, Anthony, Gabriella, Valerie, Michael, Vincent, Adrianna. Grandfather through marriage to Kathryn Traci (John) as well as great-grandfather to their children Jude and Maverick. Dearest brother of the late Mary Ann (Joseph) Mizzi, Theresa (the late John) Scicluna, Frank (Joan), and Louie (Ginny). Also survived and loved by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Manny passed due to COVID-19. In the early evening of April 8, 2020 Manny was called home to be with his son, Gregory, parents Frank and Ersilia, sister Mary Ann, sisters-in-law Margaret and Patricia, and brothers-in-law Mike and John, as well as countless other friends and relatives. We are sure they were all there to welcome him with great excitement and joy. Our devastating loss is truly heaven's gain.

Manny was born in Detroit Michigan on January 13, 1938. He was the third child and first son of Ersilia and Frank Miruzzi. He grew up in what is known as Corktown located near the old Tiger Stadium. Emmanuel attended his elementary years at Holy Trinity in Detroit, High School at Assumption in Windsor Ontario and College at the University of Detroit, in Detroit. All of his schooling occurred in catholic schools, a fact of which he was proud.

He worked for Michigan Consolidated Gas and later Great Lakes Gas for 39 years. Manny earned his Business Degree in 1975 while attending school in the evenings and weekends in order to provide a wonderful life for his family.

Manny and Judy were married in 1961 at St. Ignatius Church in Detroit. Their love and partnership brought six adoring children into this world. Their marriage stood firm during good and bad times like the loss of their only son in 1983. They taught their children what it meant to remain steadfast and strong to their marital vows. They would have celebrated their 59th Anniversary this year. One of Manny's favorite things was attending weddings and often winning the "longest married" contest on the dance floor.

As a father and grandfather Manny always took great pride in sharing his children's and grandchildren's accomplishments. His family adored his sense of humor and teasing nature. There was always a twinkle in his eye and a smile on his face when he uncovered something to tease about.

Throughout his life Manny participated and coached many sports including baseball, softball, bowling and golf. He was an avid fisherman and had an annual UP fishing trip which was always the highlight of his spring. Through these activities he made many life long friends.

Manny always was happiest when helping others. His work as an active member of St. Vincent DePaul Society, where he spent over 36 years serving and helping the poor throughout the metro Detroit area was something that gave him great satisfaction . His desire to help others, regardless of how big or how small, was something he was known for. He would help anyone in need if given the opportunity.

When one thinks of Manny, the first word that comes to mind that perfectly encompasses who he was is generosity. He was generous with his time, with sharing his knowledge and experience, his amazing humor, his love, his support, and his willingness to give what he had to anyone in need, whether it was family, friend or stranger. If you knew Manny, you loved Manny.

A Memorial Gathering will be held on Thursday, August 13th from 3-8pm (with a Rosary at 7pm) at Harry J. Will Funeral Home, Livonia (Masks are required). The Mass will be held on Friday, August 14th at 11am at St. Genevieve-St. Maurice Catholic Church, Livonia.
