George R. Shaffer, 74, of Louisville, passed away on Monday, July 5, 2010, at Baptist Hospital East. He was a native of Altoona, PA and was known to all of his friends as "Joe" or "Cranberry". Joe was a self-employed painter, an avid golfer, and a member of the Bonnycastle Club. He attended the Valley Forge Military Academy and was a veteran with the U.S. Army, along with being a member of the American Legion Post # 201. He also had been a longtime Fuller Brush dealer in eastern Louisville.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Sonja Hall Shaffer; children, Jeffri Northcut (Bill), Jack Shaffer (Lisa), Jana Gastinger (Jim); step-sons, Derek and Gregory Newkirk (Joy); brothers, Rick and Mike Shaffer; and grandchildren, Jason, Jordan, Ashleigh, Rebekah, Rachel, Gracie, Taylor, John, Tyler, Justin, Brittany and great-granddaughter, Hailey.
His Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, July 9, 2010 at noon at the Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Chapel, 4400 Bradstown Road, with interment in Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Thursday, from 2-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
