

James "Jim" Kingsley Hutchison, passed away on April 2, 2026, in Louisville, Kentucky, at the age of 93. He was born on December 7, 1932, in Charleston, West Virginia, to the late Howard H. Hutchison and Helen D. (Smith) Hutchison.
Jim was the beloved husband of Julia (Smith) Hutchison for 40 years. He was the cherished father of Elizabeth (John) Lynch, Sarah Clingman Hutchison, and James Wellington (Christine) Hutchison, and the proud grandfather of Joseph Diviak, Christine Wendler, Jackson Hutchison, and Christopher Hutchison. He was also blessed with great-grandchildren Julian Wendler and Eleanor Wendler, who brought him great joy. He is also survived by his brothers Howard (J.J.) Hutchison, Steve (Bonnie) Hutchison, Christopher (Peggy) Hutchison, his sister Elizabeth Whitman, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Anne Evans.
Jim pursued his education with dedication and purpose. He studied at Marshall University and graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, with a degree in Actuarial Science.
He went on to build a distinguished career as Chief Actuary for Blue Cross Blue Shield association, where he served close to 35 years. His career was a testament to his sharp mind, steady judgment, and commitment to excellence.
Outside of work, Jim enjoyed a full and meaningful life. He loved playing tennis and was an avid reader with a deep appreciation for history. He was known as a history buff who enjoyed learning and sharing what he knew. One of his greatest joys was traveling to Sunset Beach, a tradition he cherished for more than 40 years, where he treasured time spent gathering with the Hutchison family, where his presence was a source of warmth and connection.
Jim will be remembered as a man of great intelligence, wisdom, and curiosity. His family and friends will remember his steady character, his love of learning, and the many years of memories he helped create. Though he will be deeply missed, his legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, April 25th, 2026 from 10:00am – 1:00pm, at Arch L. Heady & Son – Westport Village, 7410 Westport Road, Louisville, Kentucky 40222. A funeral service will take place immediately following the visitation, starting at 1:00pm, at the same location.
