Blanch A. Guenat, 86, passed away November 6, 2018 in the presence of her family in Lubbock, Texas, after a lengthy illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church Chapel, today, Friday, November 9, 2018 at 2 PM. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Guenat was born in January of 1932 in Dublin, Virginia to Clinton and Margaret Akers. She graduated from Christiansburg High School in 1949, and joined the Army in 1952, where she became a cook. In 1954 she transferred to the Navy where she was active duty at Chelsea Naval Hospital, Chelsea, MA, and attended x-ray school. In 1957 she was transferred to Bremerton Washington Naval Hospital and work in Radiology.
On January 8, 1957 she married Bernerd (Bob) J. Guenat. She then worked at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant in Radford, VA, during the Vietnam War. Blanch and her husband settled in Lubbock in 1974, where they raised three children. She worked as Cardiovascular Technician with Dr. Somkid Sridaromont at Lubbock General Hospital (UMC), and later his private practice, until she retired.
Mrs. Guenat was a member of St. Elizabeth’s Parish where she was an avid member of the choir. In her spare time, she enjoyed working in her yard and gardening.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Bob Guenat and a son, Jon Paul Guenat. She leaves behind a daughter, Theresa G Del Toro of Lubbock and a son, Peter P Guenat of Harlingen, 3 grandhcildren; Jacob, Jared and Abby Del Toro and 1 great-grandchild, Emilia Claire Del Toro, all of Lubbock.
