Born on July 24th, 1931, Marie and her sister Marion Carr were raised in Lynn by her father, Detective Horace Hill of the Lynn Police Department and Mary Hill, a longtime General Electric employee.
A stellar student of Lynn Classical High School class of ‘49, Marie went on to study biochemistry, graduating in 1953 from Radcliffe College where she fell in love with Harvard student, David L. Warden. They married just a few years later, living first in Lynn, before settling in Swampscott, where they raised six kids in a big yellow house by the sea. A voracious reader she was an early adopter of change and all things intellectual. Marie was a true renaissance woman instilling creativity, equality, and freedom into the lives of her kids, their friends and everyone who knew her.
She was a prolific painter, photographer, writer and technology enthusiast, even building a home computer long before most homes ever had one. Her interests included her passion for art as she co-founded Markings, an artist collaborative in Marblehead. After her youngest child started school, Marie worked for several years in the Aircraft Division at General Electric as an engineering analyst. She retired to Gloucester with her husband sharing many happy years together in Cape Ann where they had beautiful Australian Shepherds, including show dog Lakota Blue.
She is survived by her daughters, Amy Whittenburg and husband, Ted of Hamilton MA, Elizabeth Warden of Gloucester, Rachel Warden of Denver, CO, Jessica Yutacom and her husband, Nit of Annandale, VA, Toby Warden of Arlington, VA, son David H. Warden of San Francisco, CA, and her grandchildren who knew her as GranMarie, Leland and Sam Woodcox, Sunra Loorkhoor and Nareerat Yutacom.
