Freddie was a neighbor and friend when I was growing up in Brooklyn. Though 15 years older than me, Freddie was like an older brother to many of us in the neighborhood. He had a great sense of humor and humility, and an ever present smile. He was also a man who defied convention and worked myriad, disparate jobs, each unrelated to the other, but each requiring unique talents. He brought a unique perspective to every conversation and every topic - so different from our parents and friends' parents. We lost touch with Freddie for many years after he left for, I believe, Alaska, but found him again in later years and was able to reconnect at a few old neighborhood reunions. Still Freddie, still a smile and a joke, just a bit grayer like us all. Rest easy my friend, you'll be sorely missed.
