William M Lee

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, August 2, 2018 at the Columbia Road Chapel of Elliott Sons Funeral Home in Augusta, Georgia. Burial will follow at 11:45 a.m. at Hephzibah-Vance Cemetery in Hephzibah, Georgia.

William was born in Newington, Georgia to Mel and Lillie Mae Lee on September 6, 1932. He married Rachel Lee (Bragg) and went on to build a loving family. Mr. Lee served in the United States Army as a Sergeant First Class and retired from service at Fort Gordon, Georgia June 30, 1982. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal (7th award), Vietnam Service Medal (5 Campaigns), Bronze Star Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm, 2 O/S Bars, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (1), Expert Rifle, and Meritorious Service Medal during his terms of service. He was a charitable man who supported charities such as the American Cancer Society, ASCPA, and the Wounded Warrior Project. He was always lending a hand to those who needed it and was well liked by all who met him.

William was preceded in death by his loving wife Rachel Lee and son Jeffery Lee.

He is survived by his daughters Jennifer Knapp and Joanna Glenn, brother David Lee (Betty), grandchildren Alysha Dearth (Ron), Aren Knapp, Jessica Glenn, O’Shea Lee, and Devitt Lee, and two great-grandchildren Raegan and Riley as well as other family and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family wishes that donations be made to William’s favorite charities: The ASPCA, American Cancer Society and The Wounded Warrior Project.

The family also wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the nurses and caretakers at Azalea Health & Rehabilitation as well as Homestead Hospice.
